Tianbao Cave, a spiritual journey
In China, at the foot of the Dalou Mountains on the border between Sichuan and Guizhou, the Chishui River valley is home to a unique site: the Tianbao, Dinbao, and Rehe caves. It is in this setting that our new project for Sichuan Gulin Langjiu Distillery is taking shape: the renovation of the six pavilions at the Tianbao Cave site and the creation of a unique exhibition space dedicated to the excellence of Baijiu, a spirit widely consumed in China.
Nestled within a traditional Chinese garden and Dalou Mountain, the 4,000 m² exhibition space invites visitors to enjoy a dreamlike, scenic, and poetic experience at the heart of Baijiu culture. The scenographic concept is based on three founding themes that embody the preciousness and excellence of the Langjiu brand: time, transformation, and secrecy.
Each pavilion represents a stage in this journey, beginning with the discovery of the unique character of karst caves, followed by historical and mythological narratives, and ending with storage and aging methods that reveal the interaction between nature, jars, and the alcohol aging process. Finally, the last pavilion presents collectible bottles and art series staged in theatrical and poetic environments, before delving into a more technical section on the art of blending by master blenders.
The project team, composed of Jiakun (architect), dUCKS scéno (lead scenographer), Laurence Chabot and Alessia Bonannini (museographers), Q.Jing Studio (graphic designer), draws on our expertise in scenographic and museographic design, audiovisual, multimedia, and digital devices, as well as museum lighting and stage machinery.
This cultural partnership highlights unique expertise and traditions, revealing Baijiu as a true living heritage.
