The Grenoble School of Art and Design (ESAD) has been welcoming students since 1910 in an iconic heritage building that has been ravaged by time. The city of Grenoble entrusted us with this iconic but patchwork building, with a view to enhancing its potential and making it suitable and adaptable to current uses. A collaborative scenographic approach enabled us to achieve these objectives. The exhibition hall, located in the heart of the building, has been completely modernized: a restored glass roof, integrated lighting rails, high-performance audiovisual networks, and secure hanging rails now allow for optimal presentation of student works. The new amphitheater, repositioned near the entrance, benefits from improved accessibility and synergies with the cafeteria and lobby. It is equipped with wooden bleachers, seats with folding tables, an integrated control room, and high-performance audiovisual equipment. Careful architectural integration has made it possible to incorporate lighting rails, a video projection system, and a screen concealing the speakers. These modern, state-of-theart stage facilities are suitable for conferences, lectures, and small-scale performances, and are supported by networks compatible with the latest protocols. This renovation has provided ESAD with high-quality teaching spaces that are perfectly suited to contemporary practices and the school’s ambition to expand its influence.
