Scenography

As part of the development of the Roland Garros site, the FFT wanted to install an auditorium and a museum gallery in place of the former Tenniseum, now used as a storage area. Situated underground, the project’s spaces are highly constrained in both shape and size. The auditorium is composed of a curved tiered seating area set on a visibility curve, optimized to offer uniform comfort to every seat despite the limited height of the space. The stage is equipped with a large LED screen and all the necessary control and connection tools, linked to a generous control room for a wide range of uses: screenings, conferences, product presentations, small concerts, etc. It is accompanied by the necessary service areas (dressing rooms, technical rooms, etc.), as well as a foyer, also equipped for large screenings and all kinds of events. The museum gallery puts into perspective an imaginary tennis match between Roland-Garros – the site’s first hero and the inspiration behind the sporting challenge – and all tennis players – professional or amateur, children, disabled, etc. – The various themes respond to each other as if in an exchange of balls between the two walls, combining texts, interactive screens, playful manipulations, champions’ dressing rooms, anamorphic projection and treasures from the FFT collection and archives. The soundtrack of a match sequence adds to the atmosphere. An introductory area features an immersive projection of the site’s soul, and a simulation game that allows visitors to test their ability to make a winning return against a champion’s serve
