AlUla is a place of exceptional cultural and natural heritage, home to a lush oasis valley. The “Perspective Galleries” project is composed of traces and walls that define various types of spaces, experiences, and pathways. Like a song of trails, it creates new perspectives on the landscape, the galleries, the gardens, the sky, the artworks… and the oasis. It’s an oasis! Here, artworks are like plants, and plants are artworks. Plants need energy, light, support and resources in a delicate balance between heaven and earth. Artworks also need electrical energy, light, hanging points, foundations or informations… in a system distributed between ceilings and floors.Like the “Wadi trail” that irrigates the oasis, the galleries need a global and complete system of infrastructure and innervation to provide each space (indoor or outdoor) with energy, data, stability, water, air… All spaces, gardens, courtyards, galleries, halls, auditoriums, reading rooms, etc. are concerned and interconnected in a dynamic balance between intimacy and porosity, shade and light, protection and exposure, detail and wholeness, unity and diversity, tradition and innovation… It is a just composition of spaces that creates, in the strongest sense, an environment that embraces “the man” and thus subtracts it from the mere spectator function of spectator, a real “place” for a real “occasion”.
