Scenography
The Pierre Boulez Hall marks a turning point in stage architecture and the way concert spaces are conceived. It is an architectural tour de force, inventing a new model of concert hall that is neither a “shoebox” nor a “vineyard”: it is a floating, enveloping, and modular space! This architectural, scenographic, and acoustic feat offers unprecedented proximity for 2,400 spectators seated less than 32 meters from the conductor. The innovative design of its floating balconies and suspended clouds creates a sensory balance combining spaciousness and precision. With its organ, adjustable orchestra podiums, and variable acoustic curtains, the Grand Hall can accommodate all types of symphonic ensembles, from the most imposing to the most intimate. The hall is a true scenic “chameleon,” offering unique and fully controllable modularity: During amplified concerts, the platforms in the stalls automatically turn their seats around, freeing up a vast space dedicated to standing audiences. The choir stands telescope to extend the stage space. The acoustic ceiling is topped by a walkable grid, allowing the positioning and hanging of stage equipment such as trusses, projectors, speakers, screens, and recording microphones. The height of the suspended canopy can be adjusted according to acoustic and lighting requirements. In terms of networks, the main hall is equipped with the latest digital lighting, sound and video technology. The adjacent studio has the same stage area and serves as both a rehearsal and concert hall, suitable for a variety of configurations, including chamber music and interdisciplinary artistic projects.
