Scenography
This exhibition immerses visitors in the heart of CERN and its particle gas pedal. The “Accelerate” space is devoted to the principles of acceleration and the forces involved (magnetic, cooling, insulation, etc.). The tunnel created by the architecture is a prerequisite for the scenographic design, and already offers a certain idea of immersion, driving and shaping the design, distribution and visitor journey. A 1:1 reconstruction of part of the LHC traces a continuous line of exploration in space. All exhibitions are organized in dialogue with this line and the tunnel. The LHC is an animated entity around which the public, mediation, objects, collections and animations swarm. The “Collision” area presents the detectors: the Large Hadron Collider, the detection of elementary particles and how to process the data received. Large, transparent graphic panels depict the collider’s layers on a tunnel scale, like contemporary stained-glass windows. The exhibition is mainly made up of hands-on manipulations and immersive devices to make CERN’s discoveries, scientific research and technologies accessible and entertaining for all audiences.
