Scenography
The museum houses archaeological collections from the Middle and Upper Paleolithic periods, such as animal remains, flint tools, bone and wood objects, jewelry, and engraved works of art. An exceptional collection of engraved stones, notably from the La Marche cave, dating back approximately 14,000 years, is on display. The spacious and bright museum offers an interactive and engaging experience. The permanent exhibition showcases local discoveries in a scientific and entertaining way. The collections are displayed in glass cases and totems, while interactive elements such as experimental objects and audiovisuals complete the tour. The visit takes place across four areas, offering a chronological and thematic approach to local prehistory. The first area is devoted to “discoverers and discoveries” and deals with sites and excavation methods, the second to “man and his environment” (climate, fauna, and flora in the Paleolithic era), the “traces of Man” space presents collections from sites in Lussac and the “way of life of the people of Bois-Ragot,” and finally, the“Man and Art” gallery is specifically dedicated to Paleolithic art in Lussac, mainly through the example of stone engravings.Visitors can explore the caves, a nearby prehistoric site, via an outdoor trail with explanatory totems.
