Scenography
Le Fil… is Saint Étienne’s iconic SMAC (contemporary music venue), inaugurated in 2008: one of the first in France! With a metallic design evoking the local textile industry, this venue brings together “know-how” and “savoir-vivre” in a 1,700 m² space: creation, dissemination, mediation, and conviviality are its DNA. At the heart of the building, a large modular hall offers variable capacity: 1,230 standing places and 450 seats via retractable bleachers, adaptable to concerts or hybrid events. Simple and effective scenographic concepts provide a fauxgril, motorized grids, technical walkways, hanging brackets, gutters, and state-of-the-art audiovisual/lighting networks. The friendly “Studio scène” bar, topped by a mezzanine, also has an outdoor terrace. Up to 300 people can quench their thirst there while discovering up-and-coming artists. Three equipped rehearsal studios—with a glass-walled recording control room—and a catering area with dressing rooms constitute a veritable ecosystem, conducive to residencies and training. Le Fil organizes nearly 100 events annually and attracts around 40,000 spectators per year, making it one of the top five SMACs in France. This infrastructure embodies the local political will to support contemporary music by offering a pragmatic, powerful, and welcoming venue that promotes artistic diversity and inclusion.
