The project is one of the three winning entries chosen from 15 renowned international architectural teams. We worked primarily with the architects on the organization of content, exhibition possibilities, public comfort and operating flexibility. The ocean of today and tomorrow is explored, as are the efforts made on land to conquer and protect it. In these boundary zones where water, nature and man meet and interact, the entrance to the museum is a creative and educational speleological experience, at the very heart of the Earth’s history. The museum’s interior circulation alternates between openair water-splitting and deep-sea exploration. The museum’s architecture blends into the natural elements, making them more visible, while committing itself to being ecoresponsible. The building encourages natural ventilation, rainwater recycling and the use of solar energy. The exhibition spaces are designed to accommodate varied collections of all sizes, with flexible spaces and modular surfaces. Six giant icebergs will serve as meeting places, playgrounds, technological and human experiences, housing the lobby, cinemas and auditoriums. A stage of water and ice will be available for artists and their audiences to present a variety of artistic and cultural performances.
