Scenography
From La Grande Vapeur to the Museum of Collections: a journey between heritage and creation
The scenography brings together two complementary worlds. La Grande Vapeur, a building listed as a Historic Monument and a former factory originally designed for celluloid production, is conceived as the first object in the collection itself: an inhabited architecture where visitors move through materials, gestures, and narratives, among reconstructed workshops, workbenches, operating machinery, and human presence. The individual cells become immersive chapters, while the rotunda serves as a pivotal space for understanding the site’s organization and history.
In the contemporary building, dedicated to The Adventure of Plastics, the museography highlights the dialogue between industry, design, and art. A large enveloping ellipse presents a panorama of the collections, structuring both a chronological and thematic narrative. Diffused lighting, a warm white atmosphere, hands-on devices, and experimentation tables invite visitors to understand, compare, and touch. Two immersive installations — the Auguste Bonaz House and the historic presses — extend the experience.
The visitor journey finally expands with Combs of the World, a hushed and contemplative cabinet of curiosities, and projects itself toward the future through two flexible current-affairs spaces, conceived as active showcases for innovation within the region.
