Odéon Théâtre de l’Europe - Tribune Atelier Berthier

The modular Ateliers Berthier theater is an iconic venue for live performances in Paris, combining architectural heritage with cultural inventiveness. Originally designed as set workshops for the Opera, this iconic theater was transformed in 2003 to become the second stage of the Odéon – Théâtre de l’Europe. With its appealing industrial aesthetic and high degree of modularity, the Berthier hall is now a hub for theatrical creation and distribution on the outskirts of Paris.
The flexible and modular stage equipment includes a network of walkways, a complete grid and faux-gril, and a solid network infrastructure. Numerous lifting, lighting, and sound systems meet the technical requirements of the stage. However, the comfort of the seats and the layout of the existing grandstands no longer meet current standards.
The Théâtre de l’Odéon therefore commissioned dUCKS scéno to study the feasibility of a new telescopic grandstand that would meet its current challenges: comfort and visibility / quick and efficient transformations / accessibility for people with reduced mobility and stage managers / maintaining seating capacity.
Within this framework and based on close collaboration with the technical team, we developed four technical and economic scenarios, which will serve as the basis for the design of a replacement project. To carry out this mission, dUCKS scéno drew on its expertise in grandstand technology and its know-how in creating optimized configurations (capacity and seating, ERP regulations, grandstand standards).
